Ekopia Social Investment
The Vision
Ekopia Social Investments has been at the heart of the Findhorn Ecovillage for over 24 years, supporting its growth and long-term sustainability. With a membership of over 365 people, Ekopia currently stewards assets valued at more than £2.6 million.
Ekopia plays a key role in financing and enabling major community projects across Findhorn, including affordable housing, the wind park, social enterprise buildings, the arts centre, and other essential shared infrastructure. Our work is grounded in long-term stewardship, community benefit, and financially responsible social investment.
“We see this as a chance to build on the legacy of previous generations – reviving the central role of food growing within the ecovillage.”
Over the past seven years, Ekopia has been exploring how best to support local food-growing and land-based initiatives as part of strengthening community resilience. Following the winding down of the Findhorn Foundation, Ekopia stepped forward to take on the ownership of Cullerne Gardens – recognising both its importance and the significant reinvestment needed to bring it back into productive use.
For over 40 years, Cullerne Gardens played a vital role in growing food for residents and visitors of the neighbouring Park Ecovillage. After lying dormant for the past three years, the site now offers a unique opportunity for regeneration.
We see this as a chance to build on the legacy of previous generations – reviving the central role of food growing within the ecovillage and strengthening local resilience. The initial phase focuses on restoring productive capacity and sustainable land stewardship. Future phases will expand the site’s role to include education and learning, helping to re-establish food-growing skills, ecological awareness, and community participation as core elements of the future.
